The Fast and the Furious movies aren’t exactly known for their realistic plots. Somewhere along the way, the franchise shifted from street racing to over-the-top action. In honor of the upcoming release of The Fate of the Furious, Screen Junkies’ latest installment of Honest Trailers decided to roast The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and it’s fantastic.
Right off the bat, the most obvious criticism is the fact that Tokyo Drift has virtually no connection to any of the other Fast and Furious movies. And that’s followed by the “needlessly complicated timeline.” It technically follows Furious 6 in chronological order, but it was the third Fast and Furious made.
Honest Trailers does point out it does have the most street racing out of any of the movies. The franchise’s classic “cars and butts” b-roll is also alive and well, moving from Los Angeles and Miami to Tokyo in all the classic women objectification we’ve come to know from Fast and Furious movies.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is still an awesome movie
I actually happen to like Tokyo Drift for its entertainment value, but I’m also aware it’s no Citizen Kane, a fact Honest Trailers gleefully points out.
Watching Sean awkwardly deliver his lines and seeing Han’s non-stop eating is what makes the movie so endearing.
The Honest Trailer for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is quite entertaining and worth a watch.
