I never would’ve pegged 1986 arcade game Rampage to be ripe for Hollywood adaptation, but I guess Hollywood feels differently. The movie’s been in the works for a while now, and Dwayne Johnson is set to star. Now, the actor has taken to Instagram to talk about the plot of the movie.
The original game has you playing as one of three characters: George the gorilla, Lizzie the lizard, or Ralph the werewolf. These mutated monsters go on a tour of the United States, wrecking city after city.
That’s already more in-depth than the plot of San Andreas

“I head up an anti-poaching unit out of Rwanda,” Johnson writes in the post. “My best friend is a rare albino gorilla named, George. Very bad people infect George, an alligator and a wolf with a serum. All three animals grow at an unprecedented rate. Their size, speed, agility and violent aggression is off the charts. They go on a deadly rampage and want to destroy the world.”
Johnson’s character seems to be sympathetic to the beasts.
“George not happy. Me not happy,” he continues. “When animals like you, they lick you. When they don’t like you, they kill you. I will hunt down the bad people who did this to my best friend. And when I find them, I will not lick them.”
Johnson also let slip that visual effects house Weta is in charge of the monsters.
If anyone can make something this silly work, it’s probably Dwayne Johnson. The former wrestler has proven he has the charisma to power his own blockbusters and to jump into the middle of ongoing series and rejuvenate them.
