Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – as expected of a Marvel Studios blockbuster – took home the box office this weekend, surpassing everything else with ease, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The sequel took home $145 million domestically, putting it 54 percent ahead of the first Guardians’ debut. Globally, it raked in $427 million. Disney says these earnings have pushed the Marvel movies past $11 billion across the entire franchise.

THR also notes that Guardians Vol. 2  saw the widest IMAX opening ever, which put it on 1,088 IMAX screens and pulled in $25 million.

Other movies cleared the way for the Guardians

The next closest movie on the list is The Fate of the Furious, which pulled in $8.5 million domestically, putting it at a global, cumulative $1.16 billion. The weekend pulls for Boss Baby and How to be a Latin Lover were just a few million dollars behind, though their cumulative proceeds are certainly nowhere near Fate of the Furious’ epic total.

Also coming this year, we have superhero movies like Wonder Woman, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Justice League. This year is packed tight with comic-book movies, and we can likely expect more numbers like these to roll in as the movies release one by one.
