Fight Club director David Fincher is being tapped to helm the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, based off the best-selling biography written by Walter Isaacson. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fincher is in early talks to take on the project, which is being adapted by screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. This would reunite the two, having previously worked on the critically acclaimed Social Network in 2010.

If true, the untitled project would certainly be in capable hands. The Social Network had some of the sharpest writing in recent years, and it turned an otherwise humdrum topic into a thrilling movie. Steve Jobs is a much more polarizing figure than Mark Zuckerberg, so there’s ample source material to work with. Of course, the film’s quality will heavily depend on who is chosen for the lead role. Previous reports suggested the film would focus on three particular events in Jobs’ life before major Apple product announcements. The most recent movie about Jobs, starring Ashton Kutcher, focused on the formation of Apple up until the iPod in 2001.

Filming isn’t expected to get underway until the end of the year at the earliest, so we’re still a long ways away from seeing the end product. Some high-end talent is already attached behind the camera, so it’ll just be a matter of getting the rest of the pieces in place. Who do you see playing Jobs?
