Little more can be said about how awesome Logan is. It is Wolverine’s chef d’oeuvre—a fitting farewell. But the folks over at Screen Junkies had to take a crack at it with its 200th episode of Honest Trailers, and the end product is a worthy goodbye to Hugh Jackman as the lovable, ravenous, claw-yielding superhero.
The Logan Honest Trailer is quite upfront about its feelings about the movie. So it instead directs much of its scathing roast toward X-Men. It points out Logan doesn’t have a huge cast, overblown CGI and convoluted timelines that are X-Men movie staples. But it does try to throw some shade at Wolverine, though it’s difficult.
He’s battled Magneto, Sabertooth, Silver Samurai, but now he’s taking on bloody coughing fits, fading eye sight, alcoholism, claw puss, suicidal depression, Mel Gibson facial hair and the constant urge to nap. And Professor X is even sadder. How the mighty have fallen.
Then the trailer returns to bashing X-Men. Logan’s refreshingly straightforward plot doesn’t involve the Dark Phoenix saga, time traveling to recast characters, and you don’t have to worry which side Mystique is on anymore.
Logan is such a good movie, it even completes the prophesy in The Wolverine that mentions Logan will die with his heart in his hand. And he does, holding Laura’s hand for a satisfying ending. The feels are real.
There’s a special cameo, but we won’t spoil it. You’ll have to watch the video yourself. It’s worth a watch if you’re a Wolverine fan.
Stay gold, Logan.
