Everyone wants to know: Who is Jon Snow? His true identity has been up for debate since his introduction back in season one, and it sounds like we’ll finally have answers when the show returns in July.
Potential spoilers ahead
By now, you probably know that Jon Snow is the most famous bastard in Game of Thrones, born out of wedlock and raised by the virtuous and brave Eddard Stark. Or, that’s what we thought, until the true nature of his birth was revealed in season 6.
Isaac Hempstead Wright, who plays Brand Stark, explains:
As we saw in the last episode of season 6, Bran’s psychic time-traveling ‘green sight’ revealed the true nature of Jon’s birth heritage and his real name: Jaehaerys Targaryen. “Bran’s now in this precarious situation in which it’s just him and Meera, and he has all of this information that could change the entire story,” said Isaac Hempstead Wright.
Did you catch that? Jon Snow’s name may actually be Jaehaerys Targaryen, which may finally confirm one of the most prominent fan theories (you can read all about that here). Essentially, Jon could be the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, which would, as Hempstead Wright said, “change the entire story.”
I mean, Jon already died and came back, so we know he’s incredibly important to the story. But he could become even more important once the show reveals his true identity.
Game of Thrones returns on July 16.
