Our favorite cheesy shark movie is getting a sequel

Back in 1999 when times were simpler, Deep Blue Sea hit theaters. It featured a far-fetched plot involving genetically mutated sharks that become insanely smart and begin killing off everybody in an ocean facility. Sounds awesome right? It was, and our patience waiting for a sequel has finally been rewarded because Deep Blue Sea 2 is happening.

According to Movie Hole, production on the movie has already started in Cape Town. It will be a telefilm that will air on Syfy—the people behind Sharknado—so you know it’ll be extra cheesy. It will be directed by Darin Scott (House Party).

Here’s a brief description about the plot for Deep Blue Sea 2:

Dr. Klaus Van Etten is experimenting on bull sharks against the wishes of Misty and her team. Of course the sharks somehow escape and people start dying.

Unfortunately, none of the original cast will return for the sequel. That’s highly disappointing because I wanted to see LL Cool J take on another pack of ravenous sharks with a new parrot. This also means Thomas Jane isn’t returning as Carter Blake.

What we really wanted to see was the return of Samuel L. Jackson in some capacity. How that would happen after his fate during the original movie beats me. I’ll leave that up to the writers, but it would have been awesome to see him return and finally complete his awesome speech.

The air date for Deep Blue Sea 2 wasn’t revealed in the report.
