Christopher Nolan is one of Hollywood’s most respected directors working right now, to the point where he can pick and choose whichever project he wants. But there is one character who has eluded his capture for years. This character happens to be one of the most iconic film personas of all-time: James Bond.
In a recent interview with Playboy, Christopher Nolan opened up about possibly taking up the director’s chair in a future James Bond movie.
“[I’m tempted to do] a Bond movie, definitely,” revealed Nolan. “I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it.”
You wouldn’t necessarily associate Christopher Nolan’s directing style with a James Bond movie. But the same can be said of Batman, and we all know how great The Dark Knight trilogy was. All it takes is for Nolan to line-up the character with his unique vision, and the pieces just kind of fall into place.
Right now the James Bond franchise is on a hiatus, with speculation over Daniel Craig’s future in the titular role. Sam Mendes, meanwhile, has directed the past two Bond movies—Skyfall and Spectre—but it’s unclear if either will return for future installments of franchise.
Nolan went on to admit the franchise doesn’t really need him right now. But if for some reason Mendes doesn’t return to direct, it might be the perfect opportunity for a Nolan-directed James Bond movie.
Currently, Christopher Nolan is busy promoting his hotly anticipated World World II thriller, Dunkirk, due out in theaters July 21.
