Battlestar Galactica

Variety reports that beloved sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica is getting new life under Universal, with plans to introduce a “complete reimagining” penned by Transcendence writer Jack Paglen. If you’re unfamiliar with Paglen’s pedigree, he signed on to write the screenplay for the upcoming Prometheus sequel, which is again being directed by Ridley Scott. Even though the story is being rebooted, the movie will be allegedly be produced by original series creator, Glen Larson, Variety said.

Speculation around a movie has been circulating for some time, with Bryan Singer, director of the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, once attached to the film. The original series ran for a single season back in 1978-79, and was rebooted for the Sci Fi Channel in 2003, running for four seasons. Ever since then fans and media have asked for a movie, and it sounds as though their wish will come true, although with original series creator Glen Larson attached, don’t expect it to resemble the last TV series.

Since the project is so often in flux, it’s unclear what actors are attached, so we’re left to speculate. We’ve seen some pretty successful reboots in the past few years—I can think of Spider-Man and Star Trek off the top of my head. Godzilla is also another major reboot (coming in May). Perhaps that’s why, after all these years, the rumors around a Battlestar Galactica movie just won’t die.
