I’ll admit that LEGO’s master builders do some really cool stuff, but a lot of awesome ideas that end up as LEGO sets come from the company’s LEGO Ideas platform. The latest, and coolest idea to come from the platform is LEGO Voltron. Yes it’s the coolest, and I will fight you.
LEGO Ideas is a place where amateur builders can submit builds for review, Kickstarter-style. If they get enough votes, they go to LEGO for review. Some ideas that have made it to market include the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, the Apollo 11 Saturn-V rocket, the Back to the Future DeLorean, and even a LEGO marble labyrinth.
Perfect timing
User len_d69 submitted his Voltron build about a year ago, and it was able to get the 10,000 votes necessary. It sure doesn’t help that, along with its submission was the timely return of Voltron to the metaphorical airwaves with Netflix’s Voltron Legendary Defender. As the news is approved, the series’ third season is going live.
The set may undergo a few visual changes as the team at LEGO prepares the set for sale, and it’s likely going to be very expensive. The set is coming sometime next year, so we should probably start saving or prepping our extraneous internal organs right now.
