While I loved Daredevil and Luke Cage, Jessica Jones is still the best show to come out of Marvel and Netflix’s partnership. I’ve been anticipating the second season since the moment the first one ended. Now we have a bit of juicy news about the upcoming show via Entertainment Weekly, which is set to air next year.

Kilgrave is back.
Kilgrave, Jessica Jones’ archnemesis and erstwhile boyfriend (not that she had a choice in the matter) is returning for season 2.

If I had to make a bet, I seriously doubt we’re going to see the purple man-monster bought back to life. That seems cheap, and it would be too much of a simple repetition of the first season.
Instead, I’m thinking his appearance will build on what the first season was doing. The story was all about Jessica’s difficulty coping with the abusive relationship and the actions she was coerced into taking while in the relationship. Snapping a guys neck doesn’t fix that all at once. Not to mention this particular guy happened to emit some toxic pheromones that I could imagine leaving a mark on someone for a while.
Instead of Kilgrave coming back, I imagine he’ll be in Jessica’s head, taunting and tormenting her from there, and doing plenty of work without having to have a beating heart or un-broken spinal cord.
But we’ll find out next year. Jessica Jones season 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it does hit in 2018.
