There have already been some pretty spectacular trailers for Doug Liman’s upcoming sci-fi action thriller, Edge of Tomorrow. But this latest IMAX exclusive is our best look yet, giving us a ton of back story and plenty of terrific action in under just four minutes. My adrenaline is already pumping.
There are a lot of big sci-fi movies coming out this year, but if Edge of Tomorrow gets the story right, it could wind up being one of the biggest launches this summer, which also includes Transformers 4, Guardians of the Galaxy and Godzilla.
Based on the Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill, Edge of Tomorrow follows Major William Cage (Tom Cruise), who is stuck in a time loop reliving the same alien battle over and over, like a nightmarish Groundhog Day. Each time Cage dies, however, he becomes a stronger and smarter soldier, eventually teaming up with Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) to end the war once and for all. Because the film is set in the near future, soldiers fight with metal exosuits, like wearable Transformers, which help to make humans faster and stronger to deal with the alien threat.
If you’re sensitive to spoilers, this trailer might actually reveal a little too much. However, if you’re on the fence about Tom Cruise in a mech suit, give the trailer a look. I, for one, can’t wait to check this one out. Edge of Tomorrow hits theaters on June 6.
