First Full Length Interstellar Trailer Released

Up until now, we’ve seen very little of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming science fiction film, Interstellar. The director of Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy has only given us a short teaser and poster, but that all changed on Friday. A wonderful new trailer has been released—it’ll play before Godzilla—and it reveals much more about the story, giving us a reason why humans are so intent on leaving Earth.

With things on Earth coming to a slow end, a group of explorers are sent to investigate a recently discovered wormhole, challenging their preconceived notions about interstellar travel. While we do get some hints of plot, most of the details are still very much under wraps. For that matter, we have no clue if humanity is destined to survive beyond our Earth—though researchers have found many possible candidates for Earth-like planets.

“We’re not meant to save the world,” says Michael Caine’s character. “We’re meant to leave it.”

Nolan is one of cinema’s most respected directors, so his latest is no doubt one of the more anticipated of 2014. This latest trailer is pretty moody and high on drama. But we’re sure we haven’t seen anything yet. You can check out the full trailer above, or simply check it out before Godzilla, which hits theaters in the U.S. today. Interstellar is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 7.
