J.J. Abrams delivered a video today announcing Force for Change which is the Star Wars universe teaming up with Omaze to support UNICEF’s Innovation Labs. By purchasing entries into the raffle, you will be helping UNICEF fund projects such as:
Portable, solar-powered learning kits being built in China, Uganda, and Burundi to ensure every child in the world has access to relevant, quality learning.
Mobile phone application developed in South Sudan and Uganda, and used in the Philippines, that helps reunite children with their families after an emergency.
A text messaging solution in Zambia that helps families receive infant medical test results from clinics, in half the time, through mobile phones.
All sound like highly useful projects, and you’ll be helping a good cause while possibly winning a visit to the set of Star Wars Episode VII, and a walk-on role in the film.
Now, as for the video itself. When it was mentioned filming would take place in Abu Dhabi, the suspicion was the series is returning to Tatooine. While the desert planet’s name is never said in the video, and there is always a chance of other desert planets in the galaxy, it seems safe to assume we are indeed turning to the boyhood home of both Anakin and Luke Skywalker. It looks like any scene we saw of Mos Espa in Episode I, so it looks like it’s time for to get out the sun tan lotion.
As for the alien that walks by during the video, yay for practical puppets on set as opposed to everything being CGI. No clue what race that alien is, but just a big thrill to see it.
