See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloIn order to avoid Marvel’s unstoppable box office muscle, Warner Bros. and DC on Tuesday decided to move the release date of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film was originally scheduled for a release on May 6, 2016, but that would have put it up against Captain America 3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier came out in April of this year, and is widely considered one of Marvel’s best movies to date. Putting a new DC movie up against the next installment would have been a huge risk, so it’s no surprise to see the date moved up.
Dawn of Justice, which is now expected to hit theaters on March 25, 2016, will actually be the first of many DC films scheduled up until 2020. When the film releases, another DC film will come out that same year in August; the rest of the timeline either has two new DC movies coming out in a given year, and an additional two “event” films, which appear to not be a part of the DC Cinematic Universe.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy pulled in $94 million in its opening weekend, so it’s very clear Marvel is a force to be reckoned with. Pitting any other big budget comic films against it was always going to be up against the odds. Whichever universe you prefer, comic fans are going to be in for a real treat over the next several years.
In addition to films like The Fantastic Four, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man in 2015; sci-fi geeks will also get to check out movies like Star Wars, which will also become a regular fixture in Hollywood going forward.
