Walt Disney Pictures celebrated the end of principal photography on Star Wars: Episode VII by announcing its official title.
Following in the Star Wars tradition of giving the films titles that make sense once you’ve seen them, Walt Disney Pictures announced today that Episode VII will be entitled The Force Awakens.

So far we know that Episode VII is set some 30 years after the events in Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, so it does lead one to wonder what the Force has been up to since the death of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader on the Death Star II. Has Luke just been hanging out and ignoring it? We’ve seen some hints that he has taken up refuge somewhere to meditate, but for three decades?
Or does this title suggest that only the Dark Side has been asleep since the death of the two Sith Lords? I guess we’ll find out when Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens hits theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
Meanwhile, now the special effects crews will work their magic over the next 13 months to make sure the films looks as pretty as possible.
