We last saw Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams in Army of Darkness, and more than 20 years later he’s to make his triumphant return in a new TV series being produced by Starz. The new project will re-team the film’s biggest names, including director Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert and, as mentioned, Bruce Campbell. The plan right now is for a 10-episode run, which is scheduled to start airing next year.

“Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga,” said Sam Raimi. “With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

The new TV series will focus on a new Deadite plague that is threatening to destroy all mankind. Ash will be forced to once again face-off against the demons as he struggles with his own personal problems.

“I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide — it’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor,” Bruce Campbell added.

Evil Dead is an over-the-top classic that introduced horror fans to a new type of scary movie, focusing on excessive gore and sharp wit. We’ve seen a wave of new horror shows over the past few years, but they’ve had a more serious tone; Evil Dead—or Ash Vs. Evil Dead—will be a nice change of pace when it hits airwaves next year.
