The wait is over and holy moly it was worth it. I…I am in shock, in awe, excited, nervous, hopeful. That was one heck of a teaser. We only get to see a few of the new cast members, including a cloaked figure whose face isn’t revealed. But wow. J.J. Abrams’ style definitely comes through, and if you had any worries he couldn’t pull off the long-awaited Star Wars reboot, I think we can put those worries to rest.
What’s important is the substance is there too; the trailer has some weight to it, mystery; it’s intense and dramatic. We’re immediately introduced to an “awakening,” which we can only interpret as the Dark Side of the force gaining in strength following Darth Vader’s demise. I mean, come on, the title of this episode is ‘The Force Awakens.” No official plot has been unveiled just yet, but the film, which takes place 30 years after the defeat of the Empire, will no doubt focus on the cloaked figure, who is giving off a Darth Maul-like vibe. Whoever it is, that cross Lightsaber is pretty bad ass.
I wonder what John Boyega’s character was doing in a Storm Trooper uniform? Maybe he was undercover? Or was he fighting for the Empire before realizing he wanted to become a Jedi? Questions! And how about those X-Wing fighters—hoo-boy. They’re looking awesome, and the final shot of the Millennium Falcon was pretty amazing. I watched Star Wars as a kid, so I’m more than excited to see more. Unfortunately, Star Wars: The Force Awakens won’t hit theaters until Dec. 18, 2015, which is still more than a year off. Ah well, we’ll just have to look out for more trailers as the months carry on.
You can bet today’s teaser will be endlessly directed and turned over for clues. We’ll definitely need a minute to digest what’s going on. Just sit back and enjoy for now.
