New ‘Walking Dead: Season Five’ Teaser Is More Tense Than Ever

A new trailer for The Walking Dead: Season Five has been released, and instead of the stylized slo-mo spectacle we saw recently, we actually get to see new footage. And, as expected, things are looking pretty intense.

The thirty second clip shows the group traveling through the same drab forest over and over again, with zombies, zombies and more zombies. Typical. But—and if you’ve been following the show, you’ll know—the group is on the road again, putting everyone in a pretty vulnerable position. The lack of shelter, particularly with the undead all around, makes for some pretty tense TV.

At the beginning of the clip, Rick seems to be taking his leadership duties pretty seriously, giving an uplifting pep-talk while sitting around a campfire.

“We do what we need to do, and then we get to live,” Rick says. In Walking Dead language, that essentially means Rick is willing to do what it takes (kill, maim, steal, other equally appalling acts) to survive. That’s not the Rick we met back in Season 1, or even in Seasons 2-4. But given what’s happened over the past several episodes, he’s not taking anymore chances.

What we don’t see in this sneak peek is where the group ends up, which is to say, what will be the next Terminus? Many people believe their next destination is Alexandria, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, Feb. 8.
