First ‘Daredevil’ Trailer is Wonderfully Dark

The first trailer for Marvel’s Daredevil series is out, and the tone is just dark and gritty enough to make this work.

We’re still reserving judgement until the actual show hits Netflix on April 10, but we’re definitely excited to check this one out. As best it could, the trailer makes a real effort to cater to longtime Daredevil fans. Lighting plays an obvious role in how the show conveys themes and emotion; there’s a lot of yellow, and the overt presence of grime and lack of light is meant to drive home the plight of Daredevil. He just wants to keep his city clean.

I’m also liking how the show runners have handled the effect for the way Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) sees, and it doesn’t look like they’re holding back in the violence department. That’s a lot of blood in a very short trailer.

In addition to seeing Daredevil in action, we also get the briefest of glimpses of Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin; played by Vincent D’Onofrio), along with Daredevil’s mentor, Stick (Scott Glenn). That’s about all we need to know to get onboard. It looks like Marvel is doing right by Daredevil fans, and finally wiping away the memory of the 2003 film.
