I’ve made a decision to never buy my future kid a clown doll. The first trailer for the Sam Raimi-produced Poltergeist remake pretty much sealed it for me. (Now, why a remake exists for such a horror classic is another issue.)
The point of the remake is allegedly to “reimagine and contemporize” the 1982 film, which centered on a family being terrorized by ghosts. What exactly needs to be reimagined here? Making a clown doll come alive doesn’t take much imagination.
What made the 1982 film so successful was that it seemed like your average American suburban home, it gave the audience a false sense of security. But it didn’t take long for things to go awry, and, as today’s trailer shows, these ghosts are pretty much the worst.
I’m a Sam Rockwell fan, so the remake isn’t all bad. Look out for this one to drop on July 24, 2015.
