Neill Blomkamp is busy gearing up to release Chappie, an upcoming science fiction film about a robot that can learn and feel. But once the excitement dies down, the director plans to move right along onto his next feature-length film. And it could be his most exciting movie yet.
Blomkamp made headlines recently for expressing interest in resurrecting the Alien franchise, even going so far as releasing concept art for a few ideas he had. Unfortunately, the director admitted at the time the project wasn’t ever going to happen, cryptically saying he was working on it at one point, but wasn’t anymore. Nothing, done.
His tune has changed, however, and it looks like a new Alien film is on the way.
“Um… So I think it’s officially my next film,” Blomkamp said alongside an image of a Xenomorph posted to his Instagram.
Because the details haven’t been worked out just yet, it’s unclear which actors will be involved, or even what route the film will take. Blomkamp said he wasn’t even thinking about an Alien movie until he started talking about it with Sigourney Weaver, who stars in Chappie; there’s a possibility she could be involved, which is awesome news.
Pretty much all you need to know is that Blomkamp is directing, whose pedigree speaks for itself: District 9, Elysium, Chappie and now Alien. Yep, it’s going to be good.
