Nearly two months ago, rumors sprang up about a potential Zelda television series bound for Netflix. It was going to be live-action, and Netflix was supposedly already in development phases.
Now, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has come out and squashed those rumors quite a bit. In a brief quote given to TIME, Iwata quickly labels that initial Wall Street Journal article inaccurate.
“As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information…”
So, the word from Wall Street Journal was based on incorrect information, thus leading most to assume that the existence of a Zelda television series has been greatly exaggerated.
Nintendo might be planning something in the media segment for its IPs, but it certainly isn’t ready to talk about it yet. Let’s count Zelda on Netflix out for now.
