As if HBO didn’t have enough going on, the purveyor of good taste on Thursday gave us our first good look at the second season of True Detective. That means no more looking at leaked set photos, or speculating on who is cast for what role. Now that a trailer has been released, we can finally start looking forward to what appears to be a terrifically gritty crime drama. We even have a release date.
Season 2 has an ensemble cast, including Colin Farrell (a detective), Rachel McAdams (also a detective), Vince Vaughn (a raggedy criminal), and Tim Riggins himself, Taylor Kitsch (a CHP motorcycle cop). Perfect, awesome. That’s all I need to know to get onboard. These are well established actors in roles that are relatively unfamiliar for them. But that sometimes has a way of bringing out the best in people.
The first season of True Detective is considered to be among one of HBO’s top original shows, which is saying a lot considering the premium channel’s library includes Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, The Wire and the very underrated Bored to Death. It’ll make a great companion to the death and destruction of Game of Thrones, which is returning to TV this Sunday.
Not a single word is spoken in the trailer, with the impact instead relying on a great track and moody shots. We’ll take it. True Detective season 2 is scheduled to premiere on June 21.
