SPIDER-MAN

It’s great that Spider-Man is joining up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only is he getting his own stand-alone film, but there’s room for him to show up in future Marvel movies; there are already rumors he’ll pop up in the next Captain America: Civil War, which is set to come out on May 6, 2016.

Since the announcement of the new Spider-Man film, however, the question has always been: how will Marvel handle yet another reboot? There was speculation the next Spider-Man would ditch Peter Parker and explore the world of Miles Morales, but Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, says that won’t be the case.

During an Avengers: Age of Ultron junket, Feige confirmed Spider-Man will be played by a much younger Peter Parker—in the 15 to 16-year-old range. There were plenty of rumors claiming Marvel was on the hunt for a much younger actor to dawn the red and blue Spidey suit, and it seems that’s exactly what executives plan to do.

In the very first Spider-Man movie directed by Sam Raimi, we did see Peter Parker in high school, but it was only for a brief time, and it didn’t really explore what it was like for Parker to be a normal teenager suddenly dealing with these powers. In that sense, the new Spider-Man will be a much more relatable character; except, you know, the fact that he has super powers.

Now I wonder who will play the new Peter Parker? I guess that pretty much rules out Andrew Garfield, who didn’t really get a fair run at the character. Either way, it’ll be awesome to see such a young kid hanging out with the Avengers crew.
