There are still artifacts in the world that only one man can recover. And his name is Indiana Jones.
Speaking with Vanity Fair recently for the feature on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that another Indiana Jones film is definitely being discussed. The quote only appears in the print edition of the article, but it makes things pretty clear.
In buying the company, Disney also got rights, for better or worse, to less-storied Lucasfilm properties, among them Willow and Radioland Murders. A bigger prize is the Indiana Jones franchise. Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie ‘will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.’
Seeing as a script is not yet completed, this would seem to cast some doubt on the recent rumors that Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) has already been tapped to play the famous archeologist. It’s possible he’s taken a meeting or two over the concept, but studios don’t typically sign actors this early in the lifecycle of a project. And with Pratt’s other commitments, it would be difficult for him to shoehorn in a film as large as an Indiana Jones project without knowing exactly when it was going to go into production.
Now, let us just hope the new film completely ignores the existence of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
