Apple’s rumored TV service is like Bigfoot. No matter how badly you want to believe it exists, there’s no real proof aside from a few sketchy accounts. We thought that might change next week at WWDC, but it appears that’s not the case.

According to Re/code, the Cupertino company will not introduce its fabled subscription TV service, contrary to past reports. Apple has apparently failed to secure the proper licensing deals, causing the company to postpone the service’s much-anticipated unveiling. Additionally, the service has apparently been plagued by “technology and money issues,” Re/code said.

Recent reports claimed Apple was looking to bolster its TV service with local broadcast stations, giving it a leg up on competitors like Sling and Sony. The alleged service has been one of Apple’s longer-lasting rumors, and was said to be part of Steve Jobs’s vision for TV. But, over the past several years, there has been report after report, with nothing of real substance surfacing from the Cupertino campus.

Money appears to be the main stickler as to why the service has yet to get off the ground. There’s no telling when—or even if—the service will ever see the light of day. If it does, don’t expect any details to come out of WWDC next week. But at least we’ll hear more about Apple’s subscription-based music service.
