What if dinosaurs were never wiped out by Earth’s major impact event? Then what? Would we have some kind of Jurassic World theme parks, where dinosaurs are essentially treated like lions and tigers and bears? (Oh my!) Or would they live among us, like domesticated pets?
That’s more or less the premise of The Good Dinosaur, Pixar’s other movie coming out this year. The film will follow a young Apatosaurus (Arlo; voiced by Lucas Neff), who is separated from his family and eventually befriends a small cave-boy named Spot. So the movie isn’t exactly taking place in present day—there is no technology or cities or cars or smartphones. Instead, the Earth is what it would have been millions and millions of years ago, with dinosaurs still ruling the land.
Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t show us too much; just a bunch of adorable dinosaurs running around, and a closing shot of Arlo and Spot ascending a mountain. It’s a great companion to Pixar’s Inside Out, which comes out on June 19. That film deals more with the human element, rather than giving animals human characteristics (a la Finding Nemo).
Take your pick. I’m sure both will be great. The Good Dinosaur will hit theaters on Nov. 25, 2015.
