One of the hottest directors working today, James Wan, has just been given the keys to Aquaman. After months of rumors, Warner Bros. Pictures made if official Wednesday afternoon, saying Wan’s portfolio speaks for itself, making him a perfect fit for the upcoming DC epic.
“The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’ span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material,” said Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.
Wan previously worked on Furious 7, and has been attached to several other projects in Hollywood. He’s most well-known in horror circles, but his diverse body of work has shown that he can handle any genre. After knocking it out of the park with Furious 7, there’s no doubt he’s capable of handling any genre with aplomb.
We’ll get our first glimpse of the underwater superhero in next year’s Batman v Superman, until Aquaman shows up in his own solo movie in 2018.
