Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Joel and Ethan Coen are some of the biggest names in Hollywood today, and they’re all teaming up on a Cold War thriller known as Bridge of Spies. What could possibly go wrong?
I’m always fascinated by period pieces that have a hint of real history to them—even if they’re not entirely accurate. Take Argo, for instance. Great movie, but it took its fair share of creative liberties. Not that that’s a terrible thing. Hollywood has to entertain us somehow.
Bridge of Spies is another such movie, based on the true story of James Donovan, an American lawyer, who, in the year 1962, negotiated with Soviet mediators for the release of a captured American pilot, Francis Gary Powers. Hanks plays Donovan, with Steven Spielberg directing. Joel and Ethan Coen wrote the screenplay.
Given the talent involved, hopes are high for Bridge of Spies, which is scheduled for a Oct. 16 release. Check out the trailer above.
