In addition to a new Star Wars trilogy, Disney has pledged to expand the franchise’s universe with a slate of stand-alone films over the coming years. And while we know the first one, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, will deal with the Rebel Alliance attempting to steal plans for the Death Star, we don’t know what the other movies will be about. One rumor is a Han Solo/Boba Fett “western,” and another is a potential Obi-Wan trilogy—something Ewan McGregor is very interested in pursuing.
Speaking at the Edinburgh Film Fest in Scotland over the weekend, McGregor said he’d be “happy” to reprise his role as Obi-Wan, saying Star Wars holds a special place in his heart.
There has been a rumor floating around claiming Obi-Wan could get his own trilogy that would take place between the prequels and original trilogy, though it’s unclear what the stories would entail. For how poorly received the prequel movies were, McGregor was a standout, and fans would surely welcome him back with open arms.
“I’d be happy to do the story from episodes three where I finish up and Alec Guinness starts,” McGregor said. Alec Guinness played Obi-Wan in the original trilogy.
Even if he doesn’t end up back in the Star Wars universe, McGregor expressed his pleasure at seeing the trailers for The Force Awakens.
“I’m really pleased I’m a part of the legacy of it and happy to see it and I’ve seen the trailer and it looks like they’ve absolutely nailed it.”
Class act.
