Jurrasic World enjoys a month at the top of the box office

A month at the top of the box office is no easy feat, but Jurassic World has done it.

With two major releases this week it seemed like the dinosaur box office champ could finally fall, but it just wasn’t meant to be it seems.

Jurassic World went into its fourth weekend with some stiff competition, but it still came out on top. It took in another $30.9 million, meaning it has passed $558.1 million domestically and globally it has now hit $1.38 billion and makes it the fifth highest grossing film of all time.

And still no word on another film. You have to wonder what’s keeping Universal from announcing it at this point.

2. Inside Out

Inside Out took in another $30.1 million in its third weekend of $246.1 million and globally $343.46 million.

It may not be puling in flashy numbers like Jurassic World, but it’s doing extremely well for Disney and Pixar.

3. Terminator: Genisys

The latest entry in the Terminator series has taken a beating by critics, and it looks as though that was reflected in the box office numbers. The film opened in third place with a fairly anemic $28.7 million for a film of this size. Seeing as it opened earlier in the week than usual, it’s domestic total is $44.1 million.

4. Magic Mike XXL

It seems that the world was not clamoring for a follow-up to the male stripper hit Magic Mike. The second film did just a bit more than half of the original’s opening weekend to take in $26.65 million. We’ll see how it plays out over time, but it’s doubtful it will do very well.

5. Ted 2

If a film falls more than 50 percent in its second weekend it’s considered to be a very bad sign. Well, Ted 2 fell 67.2 percent to take $11 million and land in fifth place. In other words, things are very definitely not looking good for the long term success of this Seth MacFarlane comedy.
