Batman v Superman nearly included two major Batman villains

In an effort to make the DC Cinematic Universe feel full, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has a cast that includes nearly a dozen characters and, according to director Zack Snyder, it was actually cut down as time went on.

In an interview with Collider, Snyder talked about the possibility of including the Joker and Riddler in Batman v Superman, but he ultimately decided against it.

The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie. We talked about the possibility of putting them in. Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that’s cool, but I didn’t want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict.

The Joker’s presence has been hinted at a few times in the trailers we’ve seen, but I have yet to see anything related to Riddler. With Lex Luthor, Doomsday, Batman, Superman, Alfred, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg and the characters from Man of Steel, Batman v Superman already feels a little stuffed, so not including even more bad guys was probably for the best.

The movie is already getting positive early buzz, and we’ll have our own thoughts very soon.
