Samuel L. Jackson is known for many things, like hangin’ with Morgan Freeman, delivering epic monologues (ahem, Ezekiel 25:17), dropping F-bombs on his Twitter followers and being fierce on Reddit. Recently, the Jedi also become known for something else — using his force to raise online funds for the Alzheimer’s Association on Prizeo.com.
The site has a novel approach to fundraising here. By turning micro-donations into drawing entries for one-of-a-kind prizes direct from celebrities, casual philanthropy gets an injection of fan-fueled energy. And stars have plenty of reason to participate. Not only does it create stronger connections with their fanbases, but it gives them an easy and effective way to support the causes they care about.
What could be the savviest aspect is the word of mouth. Prizeo benefits from the celebrities’ own social media influence, which casts attention on every charity drive on the site.
Though the website is still sporting a “beta” moniker, it has already awarded cooking lessons/dinner with Jamie Oliver, a walk-on part on Celebrity Juice with Keith Lemon, a QI “experience” with Stephen Fry, and more. Sam Jackson’s current contest will award one lucky winner (and a guest) a trip to the U.K., including flight, hotel, lunch with the actor and tickets to a star-studded charity gala.
The Y Combinator– incubated start-up has been primarily focused on the U.K. until now, but it’s looking to broaden its appeal in the U.S. And judging by the Sam Jackson drive, it’s off to a decent start.
Interested? The contest closes on June 5, so hit up the source link to get your donation/entry in or check out more details.
