Based on the most recent trailer for Suicide Squad, you wouldn’t think Warner Bros. is worried about the movie’s tone, but according to recent reports, the film was undergoing extensive reshoots to add more jokes—a knee-jerk reaction in response to Batman v Superman’s glaring lack of humor.
According to director David Ayer, however, the “reshoots for humor” reports are just plain wrong. Ayer took to Twitter on Monday to set the record straight, saying what they’re doing is actually adding more action. Oh, so the movie was boring and needed to be spiced up?
Here’s what Ayer had to say on Twitter:
#SuicideSquad “reshoots for humor” is silly. When a studio loves your movie and asks what else you want, go for it! #ThanksWB #moreaction

We love what we’ve seen from Suicide Squad so far and it’s great to hear Warner Bros. is letting Ayer add even more stuff to make the movie better. Given the critical and consumer responses to Batman v Superman, a lot of pressure is on Suicide Squad’s shoulders.
Reshoots or not, Suicide Squad looks like a lot of fun, so hopefully it’s not being retooled so much that it’s a hot mess when it his theaters in August. You can check out the latest trailer for the film above.
