Warner Bros’ new movie, the animated flick Batman: The Killing Joke, has officially received an R rating. This isn’t a “cartoon” you should bring your kids, to, folks. So what gives? Why the adult rating?
Well, turns out it wasn’t really so much of a surprise to anyone. According to Polygon, Warner Bros. had already told audiences that the extended version of its Blu-Ray was going to be rated R. That will include extra content, though, which suggested that maybe the standard release was going to be a bit more friendly to younger audience. Not the case, though.
“The Killing Joke marks the first film in the DC Universe Original Movie franchise to receive an R rating, and the second Batman movie to do so,” Entertainment Weekly said.
The idea was to stay the course and stick to the original story in an effort to please a loyal fanbase. That’s good news for folks who were expecting something more in-line with the comic books. Look for the movie later this year.
