Following the success of Daredevil Season 2, Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez have been tapped by Marvel to oversee The Defenders, an event series that will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist come together to protect Hell’s Kitchen.
For fans of Daredevil Season 2, this is obviously great news, as the character’s recent run-in with Punisher and Elektra was praised by critics and fans alike.
“Doug and Marco captivated our members around the world with their continuation of the story of Matt Murdock in Marvel’s Daredevil, and we can’t wait to see how they and Drew [Goddard] will introduce the full Defenders team to our global audience,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content.
According to recent comments made by Charlie Cox, who plays The Man Without Fear, filming for The Defenders is set to begin toward the end of the year, which means we can likely expect a mid-to-late 2017 release for the Avengers-like team-up.
Up next for the Netflix/Marvel partnership is Luke Cage in September, followed by Iron Fist and a second season of Jessica Jones. Basically, if you’ve enjoyed Netflix’s coup of Marvel content, you’re in for a treat.
