Alden Ehrenreich. Alden. Ehrenreich. Remember that name, because the young actor was just cast in the most coveted open role currently available in Hollywood. Now we’ll finally see how Han met Chewie, and maybe even settle once and for all who shot first.
Last month, Deadline reported Ehrenreich was the frontrunner to nab the role after impressing in the Joel and Ethan Cohen-directed Hail, Caesar! But with more than 2,500 actors considered for the role, Ehrenreich emerged as the favorite, beating out some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Now, the relatively unknown actor is primed to become the next Star Wars megastar.
It goes without saying that this is a huge role for the young actor, one that previously cemented Harrison Ford as one of Hollywood’s greats. And it’s not just the simple fact that’s he’s taking over the role, but Ehrenreich will star in an upcoming standalone film based on the character’s early exploits.
Neither Disney or Lucasfilm has confirmed the news, but multiple outlets are saying Ehrenreich has all but signed on the dotted line. Unless negotiations severely break down, Ehrenreich has the role.
So let it sink in everyone because the most famous smuggler in a galaxy far, far away now has a new face. The untitled Han Solo movie is set to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with a release scheduled for early 2018.
