A Tetris movie sounds silly enough on its own. It sounds like a parody trailer you’d spot on YouTube. But it’s a worldwide sensation of a game, and someone wants to make money off it, so a movie was going to happen. Except now it’s not a movie, it’s a trilogy. I’ll say that again, so you can read it after you finish cleaning your coffee off your monitor.

The movie will apparently be a China-U.S. co-production led by Larry Kasanoff, who also produced Mortal Kombat.
The plan, according to Deadline, is to create a sci-fi thriller that Kasanoff says is “not at all what you think; it will be a cool surprise.” The cast will be at least partly Chinese, and the co-production wants to make “world movies for the world market.” Kasanoff says the plan they have for the movie is a “natural fit.” The movie is planned, he says, to be the first in a trilogy.
Aside from 2012’s Battleship, a Tetris trilogy could be the most abstract concept of an entertainment property to make it to the screen. Filming will begin in 2017.
