The most detailed Star Wars collectibles are no longer coming from third-party toy makers, but directly from the minds at Disney.
Rather than licensing designs and schematics to companies such as Hasbro, Disney has tasked U.K.’s Propshop, which worked on props for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, to create incredibly detailed replicas from the film, from Darth Vader’s melted helmet to Kylo Ren’s lightsaber hilt. If you’re a hardcore collector, these are the props you want.
“Precisely detailed prop replicas of the finest craftsmanship from the makers of the props from Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the website’s copy reads.
When they say precisely detailed prop replicas, they mean it. From the bloodied Stormtrooper helmet of FN-2187 to the battered helmet of Kylo Ren, these replicas are based on the props that appeared in The Force Awakens, which means what you saw on screen is what you’ll get from Disney. Every single prop is made from the original 3D digital data from the actual prop and then hand-finished by someone at Propshop.
The props will initially be available in the U.S. only, with some of the items, including Darth Vader’s melted helmet, being offered as a limited edition. And because they’re made-to-order, these replicas will take around 16 weeks to ship, so hurry and order if you want one before the end of the year.
Of course, because they’re made by the same shop that worked on the movie’s props, these items come with huge prices. Darth Vader’s melted helmet is the most expensive at $3,500, while Kylo Ren’s lightsaber hilt is a cool $1,250.
