After a few fairly mellow episodes, last night’s “Battle of the Bastards” demonstrated why Game of Thrones is such a thrilling spectacle.
Note there are spoilers ahead.
Not only did it wrap up a big storyline but it exhibited perhaps the best battle ever put on TV—and maybe on film. I don’t think I’ve ever gone through so many emotions in such a short period; it was difficult to watch at times and exhilarating at others.
As you’d expect, seeing such beautiful chaos take place on screen takes a lot of planning and a lot of work. Following last night’s episode, a 10-minute video was posted to YouTube breaking down the Battle for Winterfell and how the Game of Thrones team achieved such violent nirvana.
Even six seasons in, Game of Thrones still maintains an incredible level of quality, and I have no doubts this battle will be talked about for years and years to come. Even more remarkable is the fact that just before the battle we saw Dany scorch a few warships with her dragons.
If you enjoyed last night’s battle, the video above is absolutely fascinating to watch. Many of the show runners and actors involved talk about how difficult it was to get right, which makes you appreciate what they all went through to create such a thrilling, devastating, frightening battle.
It’s also hilarious to see the cameramen dressed in everyday clothes while the actors are in character.
