Adam Sandler’s most entertaining movies came out in the mid-to-late 90s, so it’s only fitting his next Netflix film, Sandy Wexler, will take place in the era the comedian was most relevant. According to AV Club, Sandler will play a talent manager who “represents a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business.” The film will also star singer Jennifer Hudson, who is best known for the third season of American Idol.
Sandy Wexler will be the third movie in Sandler’s perplexing four-movie contract with Netflix, which has sop far churned out The Ridiculous 6 and The Do-Over. If you’ve seen those movies, you know the bar for entertainment hasn’t exactly been set very high, so it’s not as though Sandy Wexler is expected to be anything other than Sandler on vacation.
Considering the movie is set in the 90s, expect Sandy Wexler to rely pretty heavily on nostalgia. If only it could recapture the 90s Sandler audiences fell in love with (or at least tolerated). The film is expected to begin shooting next month with a TBD 2017 release date.
