Despite the copious amount of marketing highlighting his character, Jared Leto’s Joker was barely featured in Suicide Squad. Surely, some of his scenes were cut, right?
According to Leto, not only were a lot of his scenes cut, but he apparently filmed enough footage for an entire Joker movie.
Speaking to IGN, Leto seems exasperated about the final cut being shown in theaters, saying “so many” of his scenes were left out. “There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film,” Leto told IGN.
In a separate interview with BBC Radio 1, Leto suggests it was his “insanity” and the PG-13 rating that’s to blame.
I think that I brought so much to the table in every scene that it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity, because I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there’s probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie.
In our review, we were indifferent to Leto’s performance as Joker and felt he didn’t really have enough to do. Apparently, he had more to do, it’s just that his scenes were ultimately cut. Seems like his on-set shenanigans were all for nothing.
Perhaps we’ll get an “Ultimate Edition” featuring more of the Clown Prince of Crime when Suicide Squad hits Blu-ray and DVD later this year.
