Flash and Supergirl are getting a musical crossover

Supergirl is joining The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow on CW this season, and it sounds like the producers of the shows are going to take advantage of all the serious singing voices they have in-house. The second half of the Supergirl and The Flash‘s current seasons will feature a musical episode, confirmed by producers of the shows at the TV Critics Association event this week.

Both shows’ leads have repeatedly denied that a musical crossover would happen, but it seemed almost inevitable considering who they have under the collective CW roof.

Melissa Benoist of Supergirl and Grant Gustin of The Flash are both Glee alumni. Jesse L. Martin, who plays Barry Allen’s adoptive father Joe West, was an original cast member of the Broadway show Rent, while Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco, is a musician with albums to his name. Supergirl cast member Jeremy Jordan, who plays Kara’s tech guy Winn, has been cast in shows like NBC’s Smash as well as starring in Broadway shows like Newsies.

That’s a lot of singing.

The details are still up in the air. If I had to guess, I’d imagine the villain who triggers all this will be the Music Meister, seen above in an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, voiced by Neil Patrick Harris. The producers said at the event that they plan to use existing songs.

As IGN notes, this is not to be confused with the four-show crossover that will involve all the above listed shows in a week-long, four-episode event in December.

Whether this is proof that these shows are going down the tubes or that they’re everything you ever wanted, look for the crossover in spring of 2017.
