This past week, Nickelodeon celebrated the 25th anniversary of the original NickToons: Doug, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and Rugrats. But it’ll be another famous NickToon, Rocko’s Modern Life, that finally gets the attention it so rightly deserves.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Rocko will get his very own TV movie very soon.
“I’m very happy to be rejoining Rocko and my friends from O-Town again,” said creator Joe Murray. “What I have found by bringing these characters back is that it’s not so much about nostalgia, but a sense that they still feel relevant and fresh to me, and after 20 years, they can’t wait to comment on modern life in the 21st century.”
For its day, Rocko’s Modern Life was surprisingly progressive and bitingly satirical. Most shocking of all, it was full of innuendo despite being a show for kids. The show followed a wallaby named Rocko, and his buddy, Heffer, living in the fictional town of O-Town.
When the show was eventually canceled, many of the people involved moved on to create SpongeBob SquarePants, which is still going strong today.
It’s unclear when the Rocko movie will air but here’s hoping it features Really Really Big Man’s nipples of the future.
