Legendary Entertainment is in negotiations with two very solid writers to pen its upcoming Detective Pikachu live-action film.
The two people in question are Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hersch. Both bring not only a commendable level of screenwriting talent to the project but also a certain understanding of “nerd” culture that is bound to resonate with the Pokémon audience.
Guardians of the Galaxy was, of course, one of Marvel’s biggest critical hits thanks to Perlman’s writing alongside director James Gunn. Gravity Falls recently ended its run on the Disney Channel, but it was able to establish itself as a cross-generational hit with children and adult audiences alike, just like Nintendo’s monster catching franchise.
No further word on the director yet, but I don’t think Legendary could have found two hotter or better suited writers for this project. Filming is set to begin in 2017.
