Fans of Step Brothers and Talladega Nights will be pleased to hear Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are reuniting for an upcoming film—but it’s not what you think.
According to Deadline, the film, from Sony Pictures, will by directed by Etan Cohen (Get Hard) and put a comedic spin on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes tale.
It’s been eight years since the two actors were last seen onscreen together, so the news is certainly welcome. Apparently, Ferrell and Reilly have been trying to work together for the past several years, but their schedules never lined up. Ferrell was originally supposed to star in the movie with Sacha Baron Cohen, but the project stalled, giving Reilly the opportunity to jump onboard.
According to Deadline, Ferrell will play Holmes and Reilly will play his sidekick Watson. No release date has been announced though production is expected to get underway later this year.
I would have preferred a sequel to Step Brothers—I miss Dragon and Nighthawk—but seeing Ferrell and Reilly take on Holmes and Watson isn’t a bad consolation.
