To the surprise of nobody, Vin Diesel has confirmed the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in Avengers: Infinity War. The only thing I find surprising about Diesel’s admission is that Marvel allowed him to say it. Or, did it accidentally slip out?
While streaming through Facebook Live, the actor, who is currently filming Fast 8, let the news slip.
The Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that’s incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting and something that if you were part of our page you knew before everybody.
Considering how important the Guardians are to the overall story—Gamora is the daughter of Thanos after all—we always assumed they’d have a role to play. Now, whether they’ll actually meet Captain America, Iron Man, and the other members of the team remains to be seen.
Diesel said that the Guardians would be included in the film, which doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll see all of them onscreen at once. Plus, the Guardians are out in the cosmos, while (most of) the Avengers are based on Earth. Perhaps the adventures of Hulk and Thor in Thor: Ragnarok, which will largely take place off Earth, will help bridge that gap.
Next up on Marvel’s schedule is Doctor Strange this November, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and then Thor: Ragnarok. Avengers: Infinity War is currently scheduled for a May 4, 2018 release.
