Who needs Ben Affleck and Jared Leto when you have Adam West and Burt Ward? As an ode to the 1966 Batman TV series, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders harkens back to a day when Hollywood was bringing beloved comic properties to life in the cheesiest way possible.
In the newest animated movie, West and Ward, who originally played Batman and Robin in the campy 60s TV show, return to their iconic roles to take on some of Batman’s most infamous villains.
The good news is that Return of the Caped Crusaders is embracing the wackiness that made the TV series such a success. Not only do we get lessons about the importance of using a crosswalk, but fight scenes are complemented by goofy sound effects flashing onto the screen.
It’s everything pure and good about the original show, and hearing West and Ward, not to mention Julie Newmar back as Catwoman, is a delightful thing indeed. Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be available on digital Oct. 11 and Blu-ray Nov. 1.
