We’re roughly three months away from the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but anticipation is already growing. To help fan the flames, a group of Star Wars super fans decided to make their own Rogue One movie out of toys and it’s pure awesomeness.
Rogue One is more like a war movie, but Star Wars: GoRogue is just wildly fun. It plays upon the already known plot thread from the trailers—Jyn Erso and crew are tasked with obtaining the Death Star’s blueprints—and this fan film follows the story, but with a comedic take. The fans haven’t seen the movie, so it was up to their imagination to conjure up a Star Wars story, and it’s great.
It draws inspiration from The Lego Movie, because a lot of the humor is in the same realm—whimsical and kid-like. The recently released Chapter 2 is the second installment of four planned fan movies. Judging from the quality, these guys knocked it out of the park. It features appearances from most of the characters in the movie including Jyn Erson, Captain Cassian Andor and Director Krennic, but my favorite character by far is the Storm Troopers. Unfortunately, Darth Vader hasn’t made an appearance yet, but there’s still two more chapters to go, and something tells me he’ll show up eventually.
Go Rogue Chapter 1 drew in 2.7 million views on video platforms and given the response, Chapter 2 will likely reach the same level of interest. The release of the movies is a precursor to the release of the Rogue One toy line on September 30, and a contest the invites other fans to create their own fan movies.
